Having a car is an investment no matter what the situation is. They will always get you to point A to point B for the cost of regular Maintenace. There is no better way to do that than to stay on top of checking/changing the fluids that keep your car going. Generally oil is the main one that is changed however, many forget about the following and their importance for cars health.
Transmisson fluid
This fluids helps provide lubrication to the gears of a transmission to prevent them from grinding against each other while changing gears. Transmission fluid can become contaminated and old which increases wear, transmission slippage, overheating and more.
Differential fluid
Differential fluid/ Gear oil helps provide lubrication to your differential gears. Your differential is a set of gears that takes the power from your engine and splits it into your axles which turn your wheels. Again, these fluids can become contaminated which causes gear wear, overheating and reduced power.
Coolant
There are various ways your engine cools down, coolant being one major aid. Coolant flows through galleries(small tunnels inside the engine) and essentially absorb the heat and transfer the hot fluid to the radiator where it cools down and goes back again. Overtime coolant can break down or become contaminated and lose its anti-corrosion additives causing rust and leaks.
Transfer case fluid
In certain vehicles (part time 4wd, full time 4wd) there are transfer cases which direct power to the front and rear differentials. Some use gears and some use chains however they both need lubrication in which the transfer case fluid provides
Power steering fluid
A common power steering system is a hydraulic power steering that uses fluid to create pressure. It is a sealed system that pressurizes when your engine is on. It uses that power to be able to easily turn your wheel either direction. Power steering fluid can become contaminated and dirty causing it to be stiff and more when turning the wheel.
Brake fluid
Just like power steering fluid, this is another pressurized system. When you step on your brake pedal, it causes the fluid to compress making it pressurized which in turns move your brake pads to the rotors causing your vehicle to start stopping.
No matter what fluid you need changed out, we can do it here at Freds Complete Auto Repair. All of these fluids should be changed out when needed. whether its because it reached a certain mount of miles or contamination, these fluids help the function of your vehicle to provide a smoother ride and to help preserve it.
